artemisdartI've renamed this journal so I can repurpose it for fan fiction purposes!
As someone who has always loved to read and has always enjoyed a very fruitful fantasy life, I've known about fan fiction for a long time, but purposely stayed away while I had other things going on in my life. I knew I would just get sucked down the rabbit hole, and I didn't have time.
Now that my kids are in their late teens and out of the house more often, and now that my career is finally in a better place, I'm able to devote time to a new hobby!
I started reading fan fiction about 18 months ago, devouring millions of words on my phone in between all the other things I need to do in my life. I joined Archive Of Our Own in June 2022. The first year or so was just spent reading "The Untamed" fan fiction. Soooooo much Lan Zhan / Wei Ying, omg.
Then I branched out into other fandoms as well; things that piqued my interest at the time and have lived in my heart ever since. I posted my first fan fiction in February 2023, and added to that story by making it into a series that I called "Shinobi Shenanigans," starring Kakashi and Iruka from Naruto. I've finally got these two into a more emotionally stable configuration where they could have fun poly adventures! So I think I need to add to that some more.
My current interest is Hux / Poe from the Star Wars sequels. I really relate to Hux, because I too was raised in a fanatical cult that believed in incredible amounts of discipline and self sacrifice, and that enabled emotionally abusive relationships! What I had to go through is nothing compared to poor Hux, though. (my baby)
I have three WIPs at the moment:
* Bloodlines - Ambrosius / Ballister from the movie "Nimona." I'm posting one chapter every weekend, each only about 3K words. I have the whole thing plotted out, although there's a bit of squish in the middle where I don't know *exactly* what will happen. But that makes writing it interesting!
* "Key Change" - I'm just finishing up a story gift exchange that I signed up for on KakaIru.rocks. Today is the final day to post, and I've posted 13 out of 14 of the chapters I wrote in August. I'm eager to see what someone else has made for me -- since today is the deadline, they'll have to post it soon. Right? Right??
* "Blow the Man Down" - Hux / Poe. Two chapters out of three written and posted. The amazing Viraaja beta'ed Chapter 2, which thrills me down to my toes! I need to write chapter 3, and it's causing me some problems because I have boxed myself into a corner a bit, but I'm happy to take it on.
I have several other ideas bubbling on the back burner.
I'm looking for community in fan fiction writing, and have joined two Discord servers (one for Kakashi, one for Star Wars shipping), plus the KakaIru.rocks forum. But I think I need more of a social media presence, because I suspect that's how fans are interacting with each other more than Discord.
I refuse to get a Twitter (or an "X," now). So I thought I'd start by dusting off my old Dreamwidth and seeing if there's anyone out there whose interests overlap with mine. :)
