Slowing down on signing up for exchanges

artemisdartI've made a half-conscious, half-unconscious decision to step back from signing up for exchanges in the past few months. Right now, all I have is the May the Fourth Be With You Fanwork Exchange 2026...
... and I'm sure I'll contribute something to Slutty Armitage Hux week, which is next week already ahhhhh! But that's not an exchange, just a challenge.
... and I'm sure I'll contribute something to Gingerpilot Week, which I'm hoping to bring back sometime in May, after it skipped all of 2025. (I participated in 2023 and 2024, and I miss it!) But that, also, is a challenge rather than an exchange. I'm not required to write for it; there's no internet stranger who is depending on me to write, and who will be sad if I don't.
A lot of other exchanges have passed me by. For instance, although I nominated some tags for the V for Victory Exchange, I neglected to actually sign up for the darn thing, and now signups are closed. And I looked at at least another 3 or 4 exchanges that had signups recently, and decided to pass.
I think it's because (1) I want to finish my outstanding WIPs, and (2) I'm exploring whether I could perhaps write some original works and throw them up on Royal Road and/or Kindle Unlimited to get some $$$ flowing in. Maybe building a "pen name" would be a worthwhile endeavor. So I've been researching that a bit... meaning less time to sign up for exchanges.
Hmmm. We shall see!
