Chapter 7 of Live Wire
Jan. 26th, 2026 09:42 amLast night I stayed up a bit late and finished Chapter 7 of Live Wire after a frustrating weekend of feeling like I wasn't making progress on any of my projects.
It felt good to get this chapter out. This particular scene (which is only half done as the chapter closes) was my original seed of an idea for this entire fic, that I had in July 2025. So for the past 6 months, the first 6 chapters of this fic have all been setting the stage for the scene I finally got to yesterday! And that feels great! I'm very pleased that I was finally able to set things up so I can share the scene.
I also spent a lot of time this weekend plotting out how the rest of the plot will go. Originally I was thinking 15 chapters, but now I think there will need to be more.
I did some soul searching about the level at which I want to write this fic. Very few people are going to read it. Is it really worth me spending months of my life and 80k+ words to get all of these ideas out? Perhaps I should focus on something with more appeal to others.
Then I decided that I want to write this at the full level. I'm the only one who can write this story (clearly I'm the only one who wants to ...). And it does have a handful of fans! That's plenty enough.
I don't plan to take another 6 months to do the next 6 chapters, though. I think I'm going to settle into that same once-weekly cadence for this one until it's finished. Wish me luck!
