Not a word today :(

artemisdartI didn't get a single productive word out today, despite noodling on my laptop for almost 2 hours during weekly Writing Group. It's difficult for me to get back into this particular fic -- the longest-standing fic I still have left to do; something I started waaaaaay back in September of 2023, if you can believe it! It's hard to credit that it's already 2026 and this puppy is still not done.
Part of my problem with this fic is that I've changed as a writer since 2023. It's difficult to write the same story now... I feel like I'm a different person as a writer.
Part of it is that I've pretty much fallen out of the fandom. I've been focusing on other fandoms and ships for years, so it's a little difficult to get back into the Kakashi/Iruka mindset.
And part of it was that I set this as a modern AU in which Kakashi is a firefighter, and of course the climax of the fic involves a big fire... so I had to research a bunch of firefighting jargon and equipment. And now, the final chapter requires even more jargon and equipment than the penultimate chapter!
I want this to be done; I want to be able to check it off my list. It's ridiculous that it's been taking me so long! But even though I want to do it, I still ended up staring at a blank screen for way too long today.
Here's wishing for a more cooperative hindbrain in the coming days!
