artemisdartWith the longest chapter yet, I finally finished Three and a Half Steps! This fic took me from December 9th to today, or 314 days. The total is 96,942 words across 23 chapters. As of now, it is my third longest fic of all time.
I put a lot of myself into this work, and I'm thrilled that I was able to draw it to a satisfying conclusion. It started out as a crackfic idea -- what happens if prisoner Hux demands that Poe "do what needs to be done," as in kill him, but Poe misinterprets that as wanting to have sex.
As one commenter put it:
So true, Gohoe. So true.
Over the months, the story changed into something far more serious and weighty, and culminated in the best heist I have ever written (so far!). It was a lot of work, but also a lot of fun, to figure out how all the pieces would fit together, and I just hope I was able to do justice to the ideas in my head. Sometimes I think so, but sometimes I think not. But -- the only way to improve is to keep practicing.
My commenters really kept me alive during this fic. I could count on at least three or four enthusiastic comments on each chapter, especially the later ones, and people grew to look forward to my weekend updates. Sometimes, they suggested ideas that I hadn't thought of, and that I decided to use in one way or another. Other times, their comments challenged me to tease out some ideas that were embedded in my fic but not really substantiated. In all cases, the comments made my work better.
So here's the story blurb -- finally! A labor of love has been concluded on this day.
