Runaway plot
Jul. 30th, 2024 04:30 pmI had an outline for the next chapter of Spanks, but this morning when I started writing, it was just so... bad. Just, like, not interesting at all. I got 1,700 words or so in, and I didn't want to read it, much less keep writing it.
Sometimes an outline just doesn't have the right stuff, you know? I thought about it and wondered, Do I really need this part? Could I just start in the middle of where I was going?
I scrapped what I had and started again, in the middle this time, and it was flowing much better. And then I had to write a little bit of an intro to get us to that part, but I rethought how I could introduce the chapter. So far, I think it's better than my first effort.
Now I'm about 2,000 words in, and in my opinion, these 2,000 words are better than the 1,700 I threw away.
Of course, I seem to have written myself into a bit of a plot conundrum because of how I'm changing canon. I need to mull over whether I really need to change canon this much or not. As I ponder it -- maybe not? Maybe most of the same things can happen. Hmmmmmmmm.
In the meantime, I've been reviewing Wookieepedia articles on Kanjiklub, the Guavian Death Gang, sensor buoys, and Maz Kanata, just in case I can use them.
