Lavender sugar

I have some lavender sugar from Penzey's Spices. I would like to make
(1) cocktails,
(2) jam

(probably just freezer jam to start with -- I have never done it before, although I am reading about making jam in articles like these and tentatively thinking about trying "the real thing" someday).

What other ingredients would pair well with lavender sugar?

Unrelated to lavender sugar, let me know when you're ready to make jam, i'll be putting up heaps of it all summer long.

Also, if any of your little ones are old enough to enjoy berry picking, i like to do as much of my own picking as i can and i think it's an especialy fun activity to involve kids in.

I seek to learn from your ways. :-)

Oh, and we planted some raspberry canes in our yard this year, so I will have some tiny amount of raspberries as well as our pears. Unfortunately the baby rhubarb died in that freak April snowstorm; I will try planting another rhubarb again next spring.

Jam is one of the easiest things to can, a really great place to start. Except, once you start canning it can get very addicting.

There is a book called Blue Jelly that is great if you can find a copy. It doesn't teach you to can, per se, but it is a good story about a woman getting through a difficult break-up and depression with canning.

Thanks for the recommendation! I am friending you; be warned! :-)

Good! You can come along with your children to a canning day at my house. Elana and I do them, hopefully more frequently as everything ripens over the next few months. My daughter turns two on Saturday, so the house is baby-essentials equipped.

No jam-making, but I'm having a tea & cake open house on July 6th to celebrate getting older (well, mostly using getting older as an excuse for having people come by for tea and cake - I love tea parties) and you & family are welcome to come by to have some home-made jam and peruse the jam making books I've got.

Lavender....Yum!

Sugar cookies, fruit salad, creme brulee, tea cakes..... oh the options are endless. Must replenish supply of lavender, immediately. mkhm
